How We Would’ve Hosted Bill and Sookie’s Wedding Reception from True Blood

In a universe where vampires and humans can live (somewhat) peacefully together—and weddings between the living and undead are a thing—we’d like to think that Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse finally got their happily-ever-after. And when they did, they needed the perfect venue to celebrate it. Romantic, gothic, Southern-chic… with just enough mystery to make it magical.

Here at The Venue in Martinsburg, we imagine how we would’ve rolled out the red carpet for Bon Temps’ most supernatural couple—and trust us, it would’ve been a night to remember (fangs and all).

Bill + Sookie’s Alternate Universe Wedding Reception

First and foremost, the vibe. Bill and Sookie’s reception would need to strike a delicate balance: timeless Southern elegance meets gothic romance. We of course wouldn’t go full-on Fangtasia. Instead, think candlelit tables draped in deep burgundy and cream linens, hanging moss centerpieces, antique gold candelabras, and just the faintest touch of moonlight filtering through our dramatic windows. Our team would dim the lights and up the ambiance, transforming The Venue into something straight out of a Southern vampire fairytale.

We’d welcome guests as the sun set—naturally—to accommodate our more light-sensitive attendees. With plenty of space inside, we could even block out natural light entirely, using amber up-lighting and wrought-iron lanterns to create an intimate after-dark glow. It would be both moody and magical—exactly what you’d expect for a couple like Bill and Sookie.

No reception is complete without a great menu, and for this one, we’re going full Louisiana.

For the human guests (Jason, Lafayette, Arlene, etc), we’d serve a rich spread of Southern comfort dishes – like something you might order at Merlotte’s, but with upscale flair:

  • Shrimp and grits with Cajun cream sauce
  • Mini chicken and waffle sliders
  • Crawfish étouffée in ramekins
  • Buttermilk biscuits with honey butter
  • Pecan pie bites and beignets dusted in powdered sugar

Instead of passed hors d’oeuvres alone, The Venue could set up a dual bar experience: one option for humans with classic Southern cocktails (think mint juleps and bourbon lemonades), and a separate “V Lounge” for vamps featuring bottled synthetic blood in flavors like O-Negative, B-Positive, and a few… spiked options for the more adventurous. Of course, we’d keep things strictly synthetic (health code and all), but we’d serve them in etched crystal goblets for a vintage feel.

Each table card could feature subtle lore for fanWe imagine the reception would be an eclectic gathering of Bon Temps’ most iconic (and undead) personalities. Rather than your classic “table numbers,” each table could be named after something from their world: Fangtasia, The Stackhouse Porch, The Fairy Realm, Merlotte’s, or Eric’s Throne Room. You’d probably see Jason Stackhouse getting too many refills of the spiked sweet tea, Lafayette Reynolds stealing the spotlight on the dance floor, and Tara Thornton giving an emotional foul-mouth toast full of side-eye (our alternate universe includes all characters ending the show still alive). Other ‘couples’ in attendance would be Jessica and Hoyt, Sam and Nicole, Arlene and Keith, and of course, Eric Northman and Pam (who would be dressed to kill, and silently judging the flower arrangements from outside) may be uninvited, but they’d probably show up anyway. We’re pretty sure they wouldn’t be allowed to enter without permission – perhaps some hardcore fan out there can clear that up for us. And also, would Alcide show up, assuming he were still alive?

The music? A live blues trio for cocktail hour, followed by a sultry DJ set spinning everything from classic New Orleans jazz to darkwave electronica. Lafayette would absolutely take over the mic at some point, and we wouldn’t stop him.

Special Touches from The Venue

At The Venue in Martinsburg, we’re all about customizing receptions to reflect each couple’s unique story—even if that story includes telepathy, vampires, and a supernatural war or two. For Bill and Sookie, we’d include touches like:

  • Honoring Bill’s 19th-century origins, signage and even vows could be written on antique-style parchment.
  • A private area draped in velvet for vampire guests to “recharge” away from the crowd
  • A moss-covered photo backdrop that mimics the mystical woods around Bon Temps

Sookie’s bouquet would include white gardenias, roses, and a single sprig of vervain—just for a little drama. And for their first dance? We imagine they’d sway to something haunting and slow, like Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me.”

For wedding favors, guests could take home small pouches of “protective herbs” tied with twine—lavender, rosemary, and sage—with a tongue-in-cheek note: “Just in case.” It’s a fun nod to Bon Temps’ magical undercurrents. We of course wouldn’t include any garlic.

While True Blood might be full of supernatural surprises, The Venue in Martinsburg brings consistency, charm, and flexibility to the table—no matter who (or what) you’re inviting. Whether you’re planning a dreamy human wedding or an event that embraces a little mystery and fantasy, we know how to bring it to life with elegance, edge, and a whole lot of heart.

Because when it comes to love—especially the eternal kind—you deserve a reception (and a wedding venue) that’s as unforgettable as the story behind it.
